Periodontal Care in Fredericton & Oromocto

Scaling & Root Planing

Scaling and root planing are performed to remove plaque and tartar (or calculus) from your teeth. This results in reduced inflammation and the prevention of gingivitis. These techniques are designed to clean between the gums and your teeth, all the way down to the root.

With your initial visit to Fredericton periodontist Dr. Halford, he will review your dental and medical history to determine if you have any conditions that may affect your periodontal health. Diabetes, heart disease, pregnancy and medications can impact your teeth and gums.

Dr. Halford uses a special probe to check the depth of periodontal pockets, the space between your gums and teeth. We can also take X-rays to examine the bone structure surrounding your teeth and jaws. This will help us assess the health of the bone near your gums. Dr. Halford will also check for loose teeth, gum recessions and see how your teeth fit together when you bite down.

If you are experiencing tenderness, pain or bleeding along your gums, please make an appointment with Dr. Halford.
